Set in the Ukrall in 1166. The main characters are wizards associated with Sefaran the Weaver, a mage who lives in Wearmill in the north east of the Ukrall. The party are all trying to set up a new guild, which isn't
based on the four current schools. The existing schools of magic are mentioned in the politics page.
The campaign begins on the 11th Midsummer, 1166. Two weeks previously, Sebrian and Drake joined Seferan's four apprentices (Thorin, Edward, Elrood and Serebok) and his servant, Eldrid. Sefaran leaves the apprentices in order to visit a friend.
Whilst Sefaran is away, a fat wizard named Vortigan, claiming to be an old friend of Sefaran's turns up. He is being hunted by the Fellowship of the Dead King, who search out Aragorn's conspiritors. The apprentices hide Vortigan, and 'lose themselves' amongst the villagers and the woods for the day. The Fellowship turn up, as predicted. They search Seferans tower (with Duke Masovitch's agreement), and one of their number is trapped. Next, the Vern Rangers turn up. These are Lucknar's people who are hunting out old traitors.
In the evening, Elrood notices there are evil mists surrounding them, and warns the rest of the party. The party run to Wearmill - Sefaran's daughter, Orlensia (Masovitch's wife) came here on a shopping trip, and she might be able to find Sefaran. Thorin heads off in the wrong direction. THe apprenties have a fruitless day, though Serebok is captured (he is an escaped slave) and bought back by Sebrian and Elrood. Sebrian sold Drake's horse to pay for him.
That night in the village, a farmer, Worlenski is murdered and Vortigan heads off towards Wearmill. Both the Fellowship and the Vern Rangers take this as a sign of Vortigan's and the apprentices' guilt, and set off in pursuit. The town guard burst in on the apprentices and arrest them. In the fight Eldrid kills a guard, and gets away.
Meanwhile, Thorin accidently found Sefaran in Polbury. They head to Wearmill, via Torinfal. In Wearmill, Sefaran manages to arrange the release of the apprentices, though Eldrid is wanted for murder. Sefaran tells the apprentices they must kill Vortigan in order to save their own lives, and his. Thus persuaded, the apprentices head off to the ruined temple of Tarak, where they believe Vortigan to be hiding. There they meet Rotan, an Elf who'd like help to clean up the temple. They bravely explore - meeting up with Eldrid who came here to hide (cunningly disguised as a dark elf, so he won't be killed.....!) Just as they think they've found Vortigan, they all fall asleep. Waking 8 hours later, Eldrid is dead, poisoned by his own sword. The party troop back to Sefaran, selling Eldrid's body on the way.
Sefaran decides the only way ahead is to trade the trapped member of the Fellowship for Vortigan, killing everyone who knows whatever it is that'll get us all killed when they turn up. He leaves Sebrian in charge, and goes up to Masovitch's place till it's all over. Strangely, he's been sober for days now. Sebrian explains to us that Sefaran once stole something, and if anyone found out, Sefaran would be killed (and us becuase we're his apprentices). Vortigan knows this, and so he must die, and so must everyone else vortigan has told. Most of the party balk at murder. Elrood says the evil mists are still here, and apparently, All the Hells Know Our Names.
We're going to die.
